Celebration of Success – TMD Friction
We would like to congratulate Steven Metcalfe (Level 5 Operations and Departmental Manager) , Steven Rudd (Level 3 Improvement Technician) and Mark Wylie (Level 3 Improvement Technician) for completing their apprenticeships!
We spoke to each of the guys about their experience;
Steven Metcalfe
Having completed the programme I have learned how important it is to be able to adapt to different management styles and how valuable it is to collect all data/evidence when dealing with situations, also the skills I picked up in regards to 1 to 1 management and how to deal with individuals differently.
At first it was a struggle to get a good balance between the two however TMD really supported me and invested in me and gave me the time I needed to complete the apprenticeship so I can put the skills I learnt into practice which in turn has made me a better manager.
I would tell anyone who is thinking about undertaking an apprenticeship to give themselves enough time to put each module into practice and to collect as much evidence as possible, and not to lose faith because it will make you a better manager and give you a good sense of achievement.
Steven Rudd
I look back and think how glad I am that it is over, due to the pandemic and other factors the course dragged on a few year more than it should have which made it difficult for me to go back and try remember how I learned the material and the exercises we did. Overall though I think the course went as well as it could have and now it is over I can look back and enjoy some of the things I did for it and remember how difficult some of it was.
I can now look at the way things are done in TMD and think how I would change things, I gather some data just for myself and do little exercises in my role to see if I could improve something.
Try to keep very descriptive notes of everything you have done throughout the apprenticeship, this will allow you to better understand some of the way you found answers and also help with revision.
Mark Wylie
I feel the apprenticeship has helped with developing my skills within the workplace and i have learnt new techniques to use giving me more confidents in my everyday job.
Completing my apprenticeship while working give me the opportunity to see the techniques i was learning used within the company and give me a hands on learning experience.
It can be hard work completing an apprenticeship alongside working but the knowledge and skills gain for it are valuable and worth the hard work.
